Using Google Classroom as a Communication Tool

Introduction

ICT integration in teaching and learning plays a vital role. Though we have many other tools to be integrated Google classroom is one where we can use during pandemic time and on top of that we can use even during normal situation. Google classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aimed to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. In the Google classroom students can be invited to join a class through a private code. I thought that it can help me to deliver my teaching as well as students learning and it will also help me to do away with everyday monotonous reading, by allowing students to summit their work.

How should I use Google classroom?

In reality it is difficult to use in primary school as most of the students they don’t have smart phones and computer facilities at home. Nevertheless I will try to create Google classroom through parent’s smart phones for the benefits of the students. I can use Google classroom, even if I am doing face to face teaching and learning. For example, if I have Google classroom created I can use in the evening for the revision and for introducing new topic that I can post it in the Google classroom to make students aware about what we are going to learn in the next class. Therefore, Google classroom can be used before and after teaching and learning.

One advantage of Google classroom can be if the situation is being worse like in pandemic time as it help students to engage during absent of the facilitators. If I cite one example, during the online classes I saw my sister’s teacher use to post teaching learning materials in the Google classroom due to pandemic where all the notes and activities for the students to learn apart from we chat and Telegram.

 

Instructions for Creating Google Classroom

Step1: sign in to the Gmail account, then I click right corner (Google apps) and next scroll down till Google classroom and I click there.

Step2: I click on the plus sign at the right corner, and then I click to create class. It will give you the option to write the title, section and subject. I created the classroom for class V’B’ for the science subject on the topic ‘Forces’.

Step3: To add the students and co-tutor, I clicked on the ‘people’ option. I invited both students and co-tutor through their email.

Step4: I have changed theme into ethereal then I clicked on upload photo to change the theme.

Step5: To make the students aware of what they are going to learn in the class, so I made use of the ‘announcement Dialog box’. Therefore, in my first announcement I wrote a welcome note as well as information which made them aware of the subject too.

Step6: To upload assignments, questions and materials, I clicked to ‘classwork’ and then to ‘create’.

Step7:  To upload materials, I have chosen ‘Materials’ then, I have written title and instruction for the particular reading materials. Finally, I clicked ‘add’ option to attach the file.

Step8: To create a quiz, I clicked on the ‘quiz assignment’ option. Then I have written down the assignment title and assignment instruction. Then only I have clicked on ‘clicked’ option to compose questions.

 

How I am going to this Learning Activity (Quiz)?

I am going to use this learning activity (quiz) on the topic ‘force’ after teaching the concept of this topic. As a revision or the summary of the topic, I will assign this quiz questions to students through Google classroom and will ensure to make accessible for all the students.

ICT integration on Camtasia

Introduction

Camtasia studio is a software suite, created and published by TechSmith, for creating video tutorials and presentations directly via screencast or via a direct recording plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint. Audio or other multimedia recordings may be recorded at the same time or added separately from another sources.  The main intention of using this camtasia in my blog is mainly to produce their own learning video, through this video we can produce interactive learning videos that can be published and assessed by students through e-learning.

How should I use the materials?

I have prepared a lesson on the topic ‘Skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s’ from the grade 1 mathematics. The main reason that I opted to teach this topic through camtasia is that it helps in organizations of any size create professional training, marketing, and sales videos for both internal and external audience. I prepared this video tutorials with the aimed that students will be able to skip count up to 30 by 2s, 5s and 10s using two different methods. I want to use these video tutorials in the lesson introduction and lesson development.

In the introductory part, I would highlight the definition of camtasia studio with its purpose and usefulness in our day to day life. And then, I will also show examples of different methods that we are going to use in the later part like number line and counters. In the lesson development, firstly I will take them through skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s using two different methods step by step pointing curser in every line with animation. 

 

Creation of the materials

Instructions for creating content based materials;

In the first place, as per the instruction given by the module tutor, I have decided to choose camtasia as main ICT tool to design the materials for teaching and learning. Before preparing the presentation, I mentally planned the presentation that how to go about it and how can I make my students fully engage to the lesson. Then, I have prepared a PowerPoint presentation on the topic that I got for teaching using camtasia. I have also design number line in my presentation using different shapes and grouped it mainly for easy to animate later. Having done with the creating of PowerPoint presentation I read and practice the slides for screen recording. After that, I have recorded and edited the video then finally; I have saved it as produce and share in which it automatically converted the screen record into video tutorial.

ICT integrated lesson on weather

PowerPoint is a presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is included in the standard Office suite along with Microsoft Word. The software allows users to create anything from basic slide shows to complex presentations. PowerPoint is often used to create business presentations, but can also be used for educational or informal purposes. The presentations are comprised of slides, which may contain text, images, and other media, such as audio clips and movies. Sound effects and animated transitions can also be included to add extra appeal to the presentation. However, overusing sound effects and transitions will probably do more to annoy your audience than draw their attention.

How should I use the materials?

I have prepared a lesson on the topic ‘weather’ for grade three from the subject English. The reason for choosing PowerPoint presentation via screen recording is especially useful for the students to run down the slides smoothly with the narration. This material was developed with the aimed that after learning these topic students will be able to tell the names of the weather in any kind of situation by looking outside precisely. I want to use this material throughout the lesson (Lesson introduction, lesson development and lesson closure).

While introducing the lesson, I will screen record the  definition slides with examples and the slides of words related to weather thinking that it will arouse the curiosity of the students by showing pictures of different weather. During the lesson development, I will screen record the slides containing different types of weather with explanation. While conducting the activity, firstly I will record the activity instruction slides and give it to them for their activity. Then only I will let them carry away with their task which I have provided by referring the instructions. lastly, to close the lesson I will let my students to revisit the earlier slides with voice narration and then, ask question if they have doubt.

Instructions for the Creation of the materials

Firstly, I have decided to choose PowerPoint presentation with screen record as main ICT tool to design the materials for teaching and learning. Before preparing the presentation, I planned the presentation by jotting down some keys aspects of presentation. Then, I have prepared a PowerPoint presentation on the topic 'weather' that I will be presenting in the later part step by step in a sequential manner. After completion of designing PowerPoint presentation I have gone through and prepare the slides for screen recording. For the screen recording firstly open camtasia and minimize it. Then open PowerPoint presentation and again minimize it. Then again go to camtasia and click on screen record. After that, I have recorded and edited the video then finally; I have saved it as produce and share which directly converted it into voice narration form.

ICT integrated materials on Seasons

Description of materials

The successful integration of ICT into the learning environment will depend on the ability of teachers to structure the learning in new ways, to merge technology appropriately with pedagogy, develop socially active classrooms, and encourage the students in cooperative interaction and collaborative learning. I have chosen a PowerPoint as a main ICT tool which engages students in their work and it improves student’s memory retention where they can be able to keep information for the period of time.

How should I use the materials?

I have chosen the topic ‘Four type seasons’ for class two from the English subject. I have prepared a PowerPoint presentation as the main tool to teach this topic. I prepared this presentation with the aimed that students will be able to use complete sentence to talk to a partner and write about weather patterns found in the different seasons. This presentation can be used throughout the lesson (introduction, lesson development and lesson closure). To introduce the topic, I will use picture cards which represent different seasons and make children guess from the pictures. To further enhance understanding of the topic, I will explain in details using variety of pictures related to seasons. In the lesson closure, through interactive session I will check the students’ understanding of the lesson by asking questions and let them do an activity. In a way they can summarize the whole lesson while answering the questions.

Creation of the materials

“Teaching materials” is a term used to describe the resources that teacher use to deliver instruction ideally, the teaching materials will be tailored to the content. I have used PowerPoint presentation as the main source to develop the four seasons by using the effects of PowerPoint presentation and the resources available in the internet such as pictures, graphics which can give us perfect ideas and the concepts of four seasons. After making use of this PowerPoint presentation can enhance the teaching sessions by providing a roadmap, reinforcing what we teach and allowing us to use graphics and other multimedia to clarify understanding and to support different learning styles.

 

Teaching learning materials are significantly increase students achievement by supporting students learning. The reason that I chose to teach season through PowerPoint is that it makes students to understand the content in better way by looking at pictures and graphics which I have inserted in the form of animation. In my presentation I have used different scenarios depending on the names of the season with the explanation.

Developing content-based material for lower primary

ICT integration is the use of ICT to reinforce, introduce, supplement and extent skills. I have chosen a PowerPoint presentation as the main ICT tool to develop the materials as it is often used for the educational or informal purposes. The presentations are comprised of slides which contain text, images, and other media like audios. PowerPoint presentation is an effective tool to present materials in the classroom and encourage student's learning. It can also enhance the teaching and learning experience for both the teachers and learners.

How should I used the materials

I want to use this materials in the lesson introduction for lower primary children (grade one) on the topic domestic animals in English. The main aim of creating these content-based materials is to help students to recognize the sounds and names of the domestic animals correctly. Regarding the usage of this material, firstly I will play the sound of each animal and let them guess the names of the animals. Through such action, student will develop curiosity and build positive attitude towards learning. For the learning activity, I have designed a quiz and short answer type questions. In the quiz questions, I have used hyperlink for correct answer and wrong answer. Further I have hyperlinked correct answer with YES and incorrect answer with NO.

Creation of the materials

Firstly, I have chosen PowerPoint out of other ICT tools for creating this material. I have downloaded images and sounds of domestic animals from internet to use in the later slides. I kept pictures of domestic animals in the first slide to give a gest of the topic. In second slide, I have shown the pictures of domestic animals and ask them question in order to define the concepts of domestic animals. rom slide four till eleven, I have inserted the sounds of domestic animals followed by questions mainly to guess the name of the animals. I have also used animations such as entrance and motion path. I have set a timing in which I kept the sounds of the domestic animals as ‘automatic’ and chose ‘with previous’ option for the questions. 

Then, I kept the pictures of domestic animals as ‘on click’ because I want to draw the concept from the students. The name of the domestic animals is kept with ‘after previous’ to appear as soon as pictures appear. I kept remaining slides for an activity where it is sub-divided into three different questions. From slide twelve till eighteen, I have made a quiz as an activity for the students in which slide thirteen and fourteen are hyperlink with the slides seventeen and eighteen. So, when we click on the option under each question, it will take you to slide seventeen and eighteen depending on correct answer.

I hope that through my content based materials, it would benefit few and make a difference in their teaching and learning. I would be grateful if more knowledgeable person can comment on the flaws of my materials as it is my own creation and in my coming blogs, I will try my best to come up with more creative and effective content based materials for lower primary students.

Introduction

Firstly I want to thank my Module tutor Mr. Ugyen Wangchuk for Providing this opportunities to showcase my talents in ICT. I am Yeshi Norbu, I am from Jurmey geog under mongar dzongkhag and currently I am studying in Paro college of Education under Royal University of Bhutan. So in this forum, I really want to share my experiences in childhood days, my family background, my studies line, aims and dreams of life and the life of trainee in the college.

Regarding my childhood experiences, since I am a youngest from the siblings I feel that I am a luckiest  child in the world as I got all kind of helps and care  from my parents. When I was a child I am not  interested for going to the school but I remember at the age of six my grandmother said that I have to go to school and I must stood first position in terms of academic performances. I went to school at the age of seven . In the school, though I was a one of the position holder but also I was naughty too. 

If I talk little bit about my family background, I was brought up in poor and humble family background. As a child of the poor family, my wishes and dreams were not fulfil. actually what I thought is that I have to get an equal things like my friends  got from their parents. When I did something unusual to others as I was a naughty, I always got a beating from my mother and since she was a strict mother I was always afraid to her.

I Studied my primary school in Jurmey Primary School in the year 2003 and the school is located on the top of the hill where students have to go upwards. so instead of going to the school, I used to come back from the middle of the way. And  I studied my lower secondary school in Kengkhar Lower Secondary School, in the year 2011 and 2012 and lastly I studied my high school in Gyelposhing Central school and there I took IT in grade 9&10 and Science in grade 11&12.
 
To  become an engineer is my ambition of life but due to my insufficient knowledge and bit careless in my studies, I didn't coalify to college of science and technology. After coming to this college I realized that I chose a best profession of teacher where teachers are role model of students and I think the main job of a teacher is to guide our younger ones in a right direction.
